Horsing Around Trail 2024

In this design, I am inspired by George Stubbs landscapes and in particular ‘Lord Grosvenor’s Sweet William in a landscape,1779.’

I was inspired to use the tonal palettes he created in the composition on my design as I’m intrigued in how he has expressed the atmosphere within the painting. My interpretation of the piece is how he has form an analogy of how he feels about horses and his dedication in his interest to them shows through the calmness you feel when you see the gradients of colour.

I’m interested by his time in Hull, reflecting on mosaics and his work with dissecting horses and animals to understand their bodies and form. It is similar to the way of working with a mosaic.

So I wanted to create the dialogue of the different aspects of Stubbs career and interests.

Therefore I created mosaic pieces on the horse for there to be able to have engagement in workshops and schools with the design.

The design to be explored and inputted with certain facts, opinions or drawings of horses. In going further in depth with the research George Stubbs has done.
